August was a cold and rainy month. Despite the weather, we were able to continue making improvements to the ministry apartment. Because our facility is located in a region that receives an average of about 72 inches of rain each year, moisture is something we have to monitor closely. During periods of heavier-than-normal rainfall, this becomes even more important.
Two years ago, our area received approximately 120 inches of rain. That was the year of massive flooding, and there were many landslides throughout our region. The Brazilian government has predicted above-normal rainfall this year due to the strong El Niño conditions in the Pacific Ocean.
We have also continued preparing for the upcoming season. One of our projects is making repairs to the swimming and baptismal pool. This includes inspecting the integrity of the concrete and applying a fresh coat of paint. To complete this work, we need several consecutive days of dry weather, which we have not yet had.
When we moved to Brazil, we made many new friends. Over the years, we have become close to several families and have even become the unofficial grandparents to some of their children.
We are often invited to attend school functions and other events involving our friends’ children. These occasions have given us opportunities to meet people we otherwise may never have known. This month, we were invited to attend one such event as the adopted grandparents of the child of one of our closest friends. We had a wonderful time meeting new people and touring the school.
Once again, we would like to thank you for your prayers and continued support. We are grateful for each of you and for the part you have in the ministry here in Brazil.
